Delhi Pollution! Smog taking your breath away?

A week after Diwali, the festival has shown its -effects in the major areas of the city covering the entire NCR. Although there are several reasons for pollution like car fumes, industrial emissions, and smoke from farms that have contributed to toxic smog. This is not the first time that Delhiites are suffering from severe pollution, last year due to hazardous smog many people got into difficulty and underwent visceral pain. Besides, as per environment monitoring agency analysis, the air pollution in India's capital surged towards the worst level and hence, hit the worst level of 2019. Although the government has declared the emergency alert in the cities that had turned into pollution where the Air quality has deteriorated and visibility became so bad where people can't even take a proper breath.

People who are staying in Delhi are suffering from a throat infection, Eye allergies, as well as bacterial and viral eye infections. Considering it as a priority, the government has announced to shut down the schools till the air gets better, the constructions have been stopped so that the health of people would not be affected by the dangerous air. It has been also noticed that the local population lacks access and information about air pollution protection. Meanwhile, a survey of 17,000 people in the Delhi region by his consultancy found that 40% want to get out of the Delhi region because of the failure to control pollution.

The individuals and communities around the world are increasingly facing the noxious atmosphere. This is but obvious that the environmental issue we are facing on the climate crisis is not systematic and hence, the fundamental societal change is needed and take more measures to combat the pollution.

This statement has been taken from CNBC- Let's look what our Bharat ki Janta scanned so far about the environment and at what point the leaders took appropriate actions-
It is very difficult to breathe in this weather, there is a bitter taste in the air,” said Sharma. “I think the government is very superficial in their approach to pollution control. For the last five years, the Delhi government did nothing, but now, as an election is approaching, they are acting as if they are concerned. The Delhi government said they banned crackers in Delhi, so how come so many of them were bursting all over Delhi during Diwali? If you ask me, nothing will change, the situation will continue to go from bad to worse.”

  • Do not smoke indoors: Avoid smoking, smoking can harm those surrounding and non-smoker as well.
  • Using craft supplies in well-ventilated areas is a must since they are filled with toxins.
  • Furthermore, a lot of clutter at home acts as a catalyst in collecting dust, which may cause allergy. Minimising dust could go a long way in protecting one's health from air pollution. Carpets too become a storehouse of dust. While seasonal cleaning could be a good way of addressing the issue, one can remove carpeting completely during the cruel winters.
  • Avoid keeping uncovered stuff as this is the main sign for pests which are a storehouse of diseases.
  • Moreover, for those using a gas stove, wood-burning and coal can cause a lot of pollution. Using them in a well-ventilated area is a must.
  • Use a dehumidifier to lessen moisture in the house.
  • Avoid bringing dirty shoes at home
  • Avoid outdoor exercise at least until levels drop below the prescribed limit.
